She's Here! [Nov. 23rd, 2004|07:14 pm]
I just wanted to update that Kayden Marie was born November 19th at 4:01am via emergency c-section. She was 7lbs 11oz and 21 1/4 inches long. I was in labor for about 25hours and had some complications so I am still not feeling too well. I will be posting pictures and a birth story as soon as I can find the time. We're having a rough time breastfeeding so that kind of consumes my life right now.

I know that I never update but this is important... [Nov. 2nd, 2004|08:49 am]
GO VOTE! There is no excuse for not getting out there and voting. I'm not asking you to vote any particular way, just vote period. I trust that if you can read this you have access to the internet, and can research things to vote in an educated manner.

This is my own opinion (I don't want any flame wars for how I choose to vote.)
"Today I vote....
for the woman in foreign countries who have died because Bush took away funding for family planning services,
for my lesbian and gay friends who do not need discrimination written into the constitution,
for the tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis who have been unnecessarily murdered,
for poor people,
for disenfranchised minorities,
because women were not allowed to vote before 1920,
for homeless people who cannot register and therefore cannot vote,
because I HATE Bush,
because our future depends on it,
to ensure right-wing ideologue judges aren’t appointed to the Supreme Court,
because my silence will not be heard."

My 40 minute wait at the polls was well worth the price of democracy and freedom. =) Have a wonderful day!

MY BABY at 29 WEEKS:
~ Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 to 3 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel.

~Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and her head is growing bigger to accommodate her brain — which is busy developing billions of neurons. Studies show that adequate protein intake is essential for proper brain development so make sure you are getting enough.

~ Now that organ and nerve development is almost complete, your baby will start gaining weight very quickly this week — mostly in the form of body fat.

~ It is true that the baby's heart will increase in rhythm on hearing either mother or father's voice.

~ She can open and shut her eyes, and is beginning to start to focus them. She is also sensitive to light, sound, taste, and smell.

~ Her eyelashes and eyebrows are fully grown, and she has hair on her head, which is still growing.

~ With her rapid growth, it's no surprise that your baby's nutritional needs reach their peak during this trimester.

CHANGES IN ME:
* Your uterus is probably 3.5 - 4 inches above your navel, and on average, have gained around 25 pounds.

* You should be able to feel your baby's movements strongly now. Pay attention to the kicks and nudges, and let your practitioner know if you ever notice a decrease in activity. She may ask you to do fetal kick counts to make sure everything's okay.

* When everything that used to be in your abdomen gets shoved up under your ribs, your rib cage may actually expand a few inches to give your lungs a little more room. Your lungs also become more efficient, so that you actually inhale and exhale more air than you do when you're not pregnant. Any athlete would love to duplicate this feat, but it's your pregnancy hormones that make it possible. Regardless, you may occasionally feel short of breath,

* You may be plagued with heartburn, constipation itchy skin, and achy muscles. Aches and pains may become bothersome as your uterus grows and the joints of the pelvis begin to loosen in preparation for delivery.

* To keep yourself and her well nourished, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamin C, folic acid, iron and calcium. (About 200 milligrams of calcium is deposited in your baby's skeleton — which is now hardening — every day.)

* Some women get something called "supine hypotensive syndrome" during pregnancy. When they lie on their backs, they get a change in heart rate and blood pressure that makes them feel dizzy until they change position. You might note that you get dizzy if you stand up too quickly, too. To avoid getting the spins, move slowly as you go from lying down to sitting and then standing.

There is not a more amazing feeling in the world than watching my belly bounce, shift and poke out all over the place...I wonder what she's doing in there; she is having quite an active night. I love having her so close to me and being able to take care and protect her from everything since I know after she's out I will never have this same peace of mind again. I <3 my babygirl.

[music |Good Morning America]

My Little Girl's 25th Week:

~ Head to heels, your baby girl now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — doesn't sound like much, but she's beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. She will grow rapidly during this week and gain about half a pound. (WOW!)

~ The structures of the spine - 33 rings, 150 joints and 1000 ligaments - begin to form. Baby's dexterity will continue to develop.

~ The blood vessels of the lungs are developing and the nostrils begin to open.

~ Her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she'll start to look more and more like a newborn.

~ Her hair is probably recognizable now (in color and texture), although both may change after she's born.

~ This week your baby is developing a rich supply of nerves around her mouth. This will help her find the nipple when she's ready to nurse after birth.

~ At this point, fetal brain scans show response to touch. If you shine a light on your abdomen, your baby will turn her head, which, according to researchers, means the optic nerve is working.

~ She may begin curling her fingers into a fist.

~ She'll continue to explore her surroundings, including the umbilical cord.

~ The umbilical cord is thick and resilient now, covered in a firm, slippery substance that prevents kinking and knotting and may regulate the blood flow between placenta and Baby.

CHANGES IN ME:
* Your baby's not the only one with more hair — your locks may look more full and lustrous than ever. It's not that you're growing more hair, but the hair you'd normally shed is sticking around longer than usual. You may also notice darker or thicker body hair. It will return to normal in the weeks after you give birth.

* When you have your glucose-screening test to test for gestational diabetes, your practitioner may take a second tube of blood at the same time to check for anemia. (I have my test Monday morning)

* You probably can't move around as gracefully as before. It's fine to continue to exercise, but use your common sense: Don't work out when you're feeling overly tired, and stop if you feel any pain or when you begin to feel at all fatigued, dizzy, or short of breath. Don't lie on your back too long or do any exercise where you're apt to lose your balance. Hormones produced during pregnancy cause the ligaments that support your joints to stretch, increasing the risk of injury.Be sure to drink plenty of water, and make time for both warm-up and cool-down periods.

* You may be feeling like a "Soccer Mom" now that your uterus is the size of a soccer ball. Your growing uterus places pressure on your back and pelvis and may cause periodic shooting pains in your lower back and legs. When you experience this, rest, change your position, take a warm bath or apply ice to the sore area.

* You may continue to notice physical changes this week related to pregnancy. Your eyes may become sensitive to light, feeling gritty and dry. Caused by hormones, this is a perfectly normal pregnancy symptom called dry-eye. To ease your discomfort, try using an "artificial tears" solution for added moisture. (That's why my eyes have been hurting so much)

* You may also notice the onset of or continue to experience indigestion as the hormone progesterone slows down the emptying of the stomach to allow for increased absorption of nutrients for you baby. Eating smaller, more frequent meals, and avoiding spicy and fatty foods may help ease this condition.

MY BABY GIRL
~ Your baby is more than 12 inches long and weighs just over a pound.

~ Your baby is taking on the shape of a full-term baby — but her bones and organs are still visible beneath a thin layer of translucent skin.

~ Capillaries are starting to develop underneath her skin giving her a more pinkish color. Skin pigment is being deposited this week to create your baby's skin tone.

~ Her hearing is well established, and she can make out a distorted version of your voice, the beating of your heart, and your stomach rumblings. By this week, her hearing will be developed enough to respond to outside sounds and voices and she may jump at sudden noises; although these noises probably won't bother her once she is born.

~ She'll begin moving around more than ever, stretching and flexing the muscles in her arms and legs, fingers and toes.

~ Your baby's lungs have begun to develop surfactant, a substance that will help your baby's lungs to expand following birth.

~Blood vessels develop in her lungs and her plugged nostrils begin to open.

~ Her fingernails are now completely formed.

~ Her body is becoming better proportioned each day, and the bones of the middle ear have begun to harden.

~ If your baby were to be born now, she would still have a good chance of survival (about 85 percent) with the right care. (U just keep cooking in there lil girl)

~ Her hiccups will become stronger and more frequent in the coming weeks. They do not bother her in any way or cause her discomfort. (I love when she has em; so cute)

~ Numerous studies seem to indicate that the unborn prefer classical music, especially Vivaldi. Play "The Four Seasons" for your child, and pay attention to her movements.

CHANGES IN ME
~ Your baby still has room to move around so you're probably feeling kicks, jabs, flips and flops; you may even see your abdomen move. Your uterus is about 1 1/2 inches above your belly button. (She still always kicks pretty low)

~ Your belly button, once an "innie," may now stick out. Don't worry — it'll revert to its pre-baby state soon after you give birth. (mine is approaching that state)

~ If you're having some wild mood swings, don't fret. They're normal even if they don't feel normal.

~ You may notice some mild swelling sometime during your pregnancy, especially in your ankles and feet. It's called edema, and it happens because changes in your blood chemistry cause fluid to shift into your tissue and because your enlarging uterus puts pressure on the veins returning blood from the lower half of your body, slowing circulation in your legs. Edema is often worse at the end of the day and in the summer. Your body will eliminate the extra fluid after you have your baby (which is why you may urinate often and sweat a lot for a few days after delivery). Drinking plenty of water keeps you hydrated and actually helps prevent swelling. If you notice severe or sudden swelling in your hands and face, be sure to call your midwife or doctor because it may be a sign of a serious condition called preeclampsia. (Being pregnant in the summer heat is NOT fun)

~ As your uterus gets larger, it rests on top of the bladder, increasing your need to urinate frequently. At the same time, the growing uterus may trigger more back pain, pelvic pressure, leg cramps and headaches as you approach the end of your second trimester. (Oh yeah...so true)

~ Some of this discomfort may affect how well you sleep. The closer you get to your delivery date, the more wakeful you may become. Anxiety, frequent urination, heartburn, and general discomfort may result in restless nights.

~ You may feel clumsy now that your center of gravity has shifted. (I run into everything lol)

~ Your gums may bleed when you brush your teeth.

OTHER STUFF
I went out to dinner with Julie yesterday she bought some cute baby stuff and gave us 100 bucks. VERY nice of her. It was nice to talk with someone who knows me well and has been in my shoes.

It has been soo hot here in the 90's with almost 100% humidity. ICK! It is supposed to cool off this weekend though.

I broke down and rented one of those heartbeat dopplers. Some days she is so active and other days I barely feel her move at all so its reassuring and really neat to hear her heartbeat and her kicks and hiccups. We probably won't keep it for long but it is neat to have for a lil while.

That's about it nothing too exciting going on.

MY BABY GIRL:
• Each week, your baby looks more and more like she will at birth.

• Her head is more in proportion to her body at this point.

• She weighs almost one pound, and is about 12 inches long. (she was close to a pound 2 weeks ago chunky butt!)

• Although she's getting heavier every day, her skin still appears wrinkled because she needs to gain more weight. She’s growing steadily and will gain more than 6 ounces this week!

• The brain begins rapid growth.

• She now has eyelids and eyebrows and has developed fat, which helps to keep her warm.

• She can hear sounds from outside! (Daddy and I read her Dr. Suess...wonder if shes listening...)

• Her lips are becoming more distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath her gum line. (she'll be at Grandpa's office for her first cleaning in no time lol)

• Her sense of touch is developing. She is beginning to reach out to stroke her body, and is stretching and pushing against your uterus in newfound freedom.

• Baby's liver is busy breaking down bilirubin, a substance formed by the breakdown of hemoglobin in blood cells. Because a baby's liver can only break down a limited amount of bilirubin, the excess is passed on to you through the placenta to filter from your liver.

• Baby's eyes will complete formation, although the iris (the colored part of the eye) will still lack pigment.

• The pancreas, essential to hormone production, will continue to develop steadily.

• Baby is most active in the early mornings and after a nightly meal. The glucose content in some foods usually gets her moving!

CHANGES IN ME:
~ Your uterus is nearly an inch above your navel. You'll probably be gaining weight more steadily now as your baby continues to fill out. The extra weight may begin to take its toll on your back. (that's for sure my tailbone and lower back has been killing me and I feel like a blimp)

~ This week you may also begin to notice your uterus practicing for delivery with an irregular, squeezing sensation called "false labor" (or Braxton Hicks contractions). This refers to an irregular tightening of the uterus that may get stronger and longer as pregnancy progresses. Near the end of your pregnancy, it may be difficult to tell the difference between strong Braxton Hicks contractions and true labor pains.(not postive I've felt these yet)

Other Stuff:
Zack and I got engaged on the 4th of July. I knew it was coming soon since we went ring shopping and picked out my ring; but he left me in suspense. I am soo happy and excited. =) We aren't sure when we will get married but after our lil girl is born works out better with health insurance and stuff. We'll see.

I registered for birthing classes and breastfeeding classes. I also scheduled 3d/4d ultrasound for September 7th. Can't wait for that! Only $125 too; that's way cheaper than I've heard a lot of places are and I still get all the photos, tape, CD etc etc.

I have classes and I am sick of 'em. I can't wait until I am done. Graduating in May will feel sooo sooo good.

Oh and it's Zack's bday. Happy Birthday to him.

If I ever have the patience to figure out how to post belly pictures I will....

I got a massage yesterday and it was WONDERFUL. My back has been hurting me soo bad and I've just been plain achy all over. My grandma gave me a gift certificate for it so it was even nicer being FREE.

I've been helping my mom move into her new place and I will continue to today...We spent forever at Home Depot and Lowe's yesterday but we got lots of stuff i.e. all the paint colors and wallpaper.

I went to get my teeth cleaned on Wednesday and Dad and I actually talked. It was a little strange since I haven't talked to him in two months and out last convo definitely wasn't a good one by any means. He was being pretty decent; we are supposed to go out to lunch or something this weekend...we'll see if he actually calls.

I swear I went into total emotional pregnant mode last night. Zack found it pretty amusing. I started by getting all worried and upset about money and bills and I was crying and talking to him on the phone while he was driving. So he got here and by that time I kept crying...and laughing at the same time. I couldn't get my water bottle open so I just started bawling. It was so ridiculous...I'm pretty sure that's why I was laughing at the same time. He compared it to being like something out of a horror movie because it was just so bizzare that I was really crying and laughing at the same time. I have to agree it was pretty strange although I had no control over it. Gotta love those pregnancy hormones.

Anyways time to get showered and stuff.

BABY UPDATE
HOW FAR ALONG: 19 weeks & 1 day

FEELING: my back hurts

CHANGES IN ME:
~ You're just a week shy of the halfway mark. (I feel like I've been pregnant forever and I still have a long ways to go lol)

~ You may notice some achiness in your lower abdomen (perhaps extending to your groin) or even a quick, sharp, stabbing pain on one or both sides, especially when you change position or at the end of an active day. (yep; I've learned not to hop up too quick)

~ To your dismay, you may find that heartburn is more likely to occur as your uterus pushes up against your stomach. Because the movement of food through the digestive tract has slowed, nutrients reach the fetus more efficiently -- generally within one or two hours after meals.

THE BABY:
* At 15 centimeters crown to rump, and weighing eight ounces, your baby is getting big!

* This week, permanent teeth buds are forming behind the milk teeth buds.

* Organs of reproduction are developing rapidly, getting ready to sustain future generations. The uterus is clearly visible in the female and the testes are apparent in the male fetus. If your baby is positioned just right on an ultrasound scan, the tiny penis is easily identifiable. (6 more days till we find out!)

* The baby's arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body now.

* The baby's kidneys continue to make urine, and the hair on his scalp is sprouting.

* This is a crucial time for sensory development: Your baby's brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch.

* If your baby is a girl, she has an astonishing six million eggs in her ovaries. They'll dwindle to fewer than two million by the time she's born.

[mood | happy]
[music |5 o'clock news]

Thought I'd update since I never have. I have to go work on my final papers that are due tomorrow....I'm such a procrastinator. Oh well maybe I'll change my ways some day lol. I also want Zack and I to go for our nightly walk since we haven't the last few days. Lots to do. Almost dinner time. mmmmm.

*************************************************************************************

**10 more days till we find out the sex!!!**Zack and I are so excited to find out. Robin (sister-in-law) is going to go with us to the ultrasound. I know baby is going to look so different than the pictures I have when he/she was only 10 weeks old.

I liked these little updates (copied from mama_rabbit. Thanx!)So here ya go.

HOW FAR ALONG: 18 weeks (18w 4d; provided my due date doesn't change again!)

I'M FEELING: always sleepy, lower back pain, achy boobs, huge, glad my skin is clearing up tho

CHANGES IN ME:
- Bigger, more comfortable clothes are a must now as your appetite and waistline increase.

- You can now feel your uterus just below your navel.

- The average woman has gained close to 12 pounds by now. (eep I've gained 14)

- Feeling dizzy, lightheaded or faint are normal during pregnancy. These symptoms aren't harmful unless they occur frequently or severely.

- "Postural hypotension" is low blood pressure due to a change in position and happens frequently in pregnancy because your cardiovascular system doesn't react as fast.

THE BABY:
* Our little one is nearly half a pound now & very human looking.

* Your baby has grown to 14 centimeters crown to rump.

* Baby's limbs are lengthening & at last, body length is catching up to head size.

* Pads are forming on the fingertips and toes & the eyes are looking forward rather than out the sides of the head.

* Meconium, the baby's first bowel movement, is accumulating within the bowel.

* If your baby is a boy, his prostate gland is beginning to develop.

* If you notice your belly making jerky movements in sync, don't panic; your baby may have the hiccups!

* She's busy flexing her arms and legs — movements that you'll likely start noticing more and more.

* If you're having a girl, her uterus & Fallopian tubes are formed and in place.
